Cube of Cubes

Some spatial depth is depicted in the array of cubes on each face of the larger cube. On the front face, the top cubes appear to be farther back than the bottom cubes, and the right cubes are farther in than the left. Yet for all of its three-dimensionality, each cube array is also part of a single planar face of a larger cube. There are several ways in which this is possible. Either (as actually happened during the creation of this work) the smaller cubes are painted images on each face of the larger cube. Or -- because the larger cube is somewhat transparent -- the smaller cubes might be embedded in it. Another interpretation still might hold that the smaller cubes protrude outward from the surface of the larger cube.
